VERTEX TROUBLESHOOTING / BEGINNERPROBLEM →
CHECK → FIX.
Choose the symptom that matches what you see. Follow the checks in order and stop as soon as you find the stage that changes the result.
Golden rule: do not change five settings at once. Start with Source → Vertex → one display, prove SDR, prove HDR10, read RX/TX, then add advanced EDID, LLDV, AVR and the second display.
PROBLEM 01NO HDR
Known HDR content plays, but the display stays in SDR.
- Confirm the source is actually outputting HDR10 with known HDR10 material.
- Read Vertex RX. If RX is SDR, investigate source output and the EDID presented to the source.
- If RX shows HDR but the display does not, inspect Vertex TX, the output cable and the display/AVR HDMI Enhanced/UHD input mode.
- Return to one source → Vertex → one display until HDR10 works.
PROBLEM 02NO DOLBY VISION / LLDV
The source does not offer Dolby Vision, or an LLDV workflow never starts.
- First prove normal HDR10.
- Confirm the exact source supports Dolby Vision/player-led DV.
- Select the intended DV/LLDV-capable Vertex EDID, then force a fresh HDMI handshake so the source reads it.
- Check the source menu again and verify the actual Vertex RX signal.
- Remember: an LLDV EDID does not turn an HDR projector into a native Dolby Vision display.
PROBLEM 03WRONG / PURPLE / GREEN COLORS
Picture exists, but color is obviously wrong.
- Return source color output to Auto where possible.
- Compare Vertex RX color format with what the downstream device can accept.
- Check RGB/YCbCr and Full/Limited range settings; do not force mismatched range settings at both ends.
- Remove custom EDID/scaling temporarily and retest the simplest path.
- If the issue only starts with a DV/LLDV workflow, return to proven HDR10 and add DV again as the only change.
PROBLEM 04WASHED-OUT BLACKS / CRUSHED BLACKS
Image is grey and flat, or dark detail disappears.
- Suspect a video-range mismatch before changing calibration.
- Use Auto range as the baseline on source/display where available.
- If one device is forced Limited (video range), make sure the other side is not forced Full, and vice versa.
- Verify with normal SDR/HDR material before changing gamma or HDR tone controls.
PROBLEM 05NO AUDIO
Video works but audio is silent.
- Check what audio capability the active Vertex EDID advertises to the source.
- If using an AVR, test Source → AVR directly and then Source → Vertex → AVR.
- Use a basic PCM/stereo test to prove the path, then re-enable bitstream/multichannel formats.
- Check Vertex audio routing/de-embedding only after the HDMI audio path itself works.
PROBLEM 06ONLY STEREO
The source only offers 2-channel audio.
- The source may be reading a stereo-only EDID.
- Inspect Automix/Custom EDID audio flags and the downstream AVR capability.
- Do not advertise 7.1 unless the actual audio path can handle it.
- Force a fresh handshake after changing EDID so the source refreshes its audio choices.
PROBLEM 07HDCP / COPY-PROTECTION BLACK SCREEN
Menus may work, but protected video becomes black.
- First rule out resolution/bandwidth/cable problems using simple non-protected menus and a conservative format.
- Check Vertex RX/TX and whether the problem begins only when protected playback starts.
- Test source → display and source → AVR/display directly to identify the failing stage.
- Only then check the Vertex HDCP setting (HDCP slide: 2.2 Mode / middle Auto-GUI / 1.4; GUI CONFIG → HDCP VERSION). A green side logo means the HDCP handshake is done; do not force HDCP as the first fix.
PROBLEM 084K60 DOES NOT WORK
4K24/30 works but 4K50/60 is unstable or black.
- This strongly points to the higher-bandwidth path.
- Enable the display/AVR Enhanced/UHD HDMI mode for the used input.
- Use 600MHz / 18Gbps certified cables, ideally 2–4 m (6–12 ft).
- Reduce chroma/bit depth temporarily to prove bandwidth is the issue.
- Remember original Vertex tops out at the HDMI 2.0-class 18Gbps / 600MHz signal range.
PROBLEM 09SECOND DISPLAY HAS NO PICTURE
One output works; adding the second sink breaks one or both.
- Test each display alone first and note its supported resolution/HDR/audio capability.
- Reconnect both only after each individual path is known-good.
- Use Automix when the source must see a capability set suitable for both displays.
- If one display is 4K and the other 1080p, introduce Vertex scaling deliberately.
- Add the AVR only after the two-display behavior is understood.
PROBLEM 10AVR CAUSES BLACK SCREEN
Source → Vertex → display works; inserting the AVR breaks video.
- Set the AVR HDMI input to its full 4K Enhanced/UHD signal mode where applicable.
- Test Vertex → AVR → display with a conservative 4K/SDR format first.
- Then prove HDR10 before Dolby Vision/LLDV.
- Check both HDMI cables around the AVR.
- If RX at Vertex is correct, focus on AVR capability, AVR input format and downstream handshake.
