VERTEX GLOSSARY / AUDIO TRANSPORT

HDMI Audio – HDfury Vertex glossary

Lossless formats pass through HDMI without being compressed or downconverted by Vertex.

SIMPLY PUT

HDMI does not only carry the picture: the sound travels in the same cable.

The Vertex passes that sound on to your TV or AV receiver without shrinking or changing it.

Big lossless formats, like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio, only reach your receiver over HDMI, not over the optical or analog jack.

WITH THE HDFURY VERTEX

Does the HDfury Vertex pass Dolby Atmos, TrueHD and DTS-HD over HDMI?

YESYes. HDMI audio, including lossless formats and Atmos, goes out of the HDMI outputs without being compressed or downconverted. Your player only sends what the EDID offers, so pick an EDID with full audio (p.104, p.111).

How to use it with the Vertex:

  1. In Automix, tick the 7.1 Full flag, or in Custom choose a table named 'All Sound' (p.15–17, p.28).
  2. RS232 alternative: #set edidaudio 71 (p.50).
  3. TV on one output, AV receiver on the other; CONFIG > MUTE BOT TX AUDIO silences the BOT output if needed (p.42).
  4. Check the incoming audio in the GUI AUD0/AUD1 lines (p.27).

01 / SIMPLE EXPLANATION

What is it?

What happens to audio carried inside HDMI.

Vertex passes supported HDMI audio through without compressing or downconverting the lossless stream.
02 / REAL-WORLD USE

Why would you use it?

Useful when an AVR or processor downstream should receive the original HDMI audio.

In a Vertex system, this works together with the source, the connected sink(s), EDID/HDCP behaviour and the selected routing or processing configuration.
03 / HOW VERTEX USES IT

Inside the HDMI chain

Lossless formats pass through HDMI without being compressed or downconverted by Vertex.

SOURCE → VERTEX → DISPLAY / AVR / PROJECTOR
04 / IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Do not confuse this with…

Audio extraction is a separate function from HDMI passthrough.

This page explains the term in the context of the documented Vertex specification rather than as a general claim about every HDMI device.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK

Common questions

Does the Vertex downgrade Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA to Dolby Digital or DTS?

No. The Vertex does not compress or downconvert the incoming audio; lossless audio goes out through the HDMI outputs only (p.104).

Why does my player only send stereo through the Vertex?

The player chooses its audio format from the EDID it reads. In Automix mode the EDID can report only the audio both outputs share; the 7.1 Full flag or a CUSTOM table named 'All Sound' makes it report full audio (p.15–17, p.28).

Can I have picture on the TV and sound on the AV receiver?

Yes. Connect the TV to one output and the AVR to the other; CONFIG > MUTE BOT TX AUDIO can silence the bottom output if you want sound only from the receiver (p.42).
