Video Processing
Upscale, downscale, passthrough and bypass; chroma, color-space and color-depth conversion at 8, 10, 12 and 16-bit where applicable.
Video processing means the Vertex changes the picture signal on its way to the screen.
It can make the picture bigger or smaller, pass it through untouched, or change its colour format and bit depth.
It is used so a player and a screen that do not match can still work together.
Does the HDfury Vertex process video?
YESYes. It can upscale, downscale or pass video through and change chroma, colour space and bit depth (8, 10, 12 or 16-bit) per output, within 600 MHz. It adds only a few pixel clocks of delay; it does no tone mapping.
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Pick a mode with the SCALE slide switch: No Scaling/Passthru, Custom Scaling/GUI or Auto Scaling (p.12).
- Custom Scaling: set colour space and deep colour per output in the GUI SCALER section (p.30).
- Auto Scaling adapts each output to the connected display; quick presets for TOP (p.14).
- For Dolby Vision keep No Scaling, as DV travels in an RGB 8-bit container (p.113).
What is it?
How Vertex can transform video.
Why would you use it?
Example: feed a 4K source to a 4K display while adapting another output for older equipment.
Inside the HDMI chain
Upscale, downscale, passthrough and bypass; chroma, color-space and color-depth conversion at 8, 10, 12 and 16-bit where applicable.
Do not confuse this with…
Any conversion must still respect the supported signal envelope.
Common questions
What is the difference between passthrough and bypass?
Both leave the video unscaled. The manual only defines 'No Scaling/Passthru' as what comes in goes out untouched (p.12); it does not explain 'Bypass' separately.
Which bit depths can the Vertex output?
Follow Input, 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit or 16-bit, chosen in Custom Scaling (p.30), within the 600 MHz limit.
Does processing work on both outputs?
Yes, Custom Scaling lets you set rules for both the upscale (BOT) and downscale (TOP) output (p.30).
