Use Source → Vertex → Display. One source, one display, no AVR and no second screen for the first test. This makes it obvious which device causes a problem.
Vertex itself — start here
This page explains what to set on Vertex before you touch advanced EDID, scaling or Dolby Vision options.
For first picture troubleshooting, use a normal compatible EDID mode. The Vertex manual provides Automix, Custom, Fixed, Copy TOP and Copy BOT choices. Fixed EDID is 4K60 4:2:0 8-bit 300MHz with 2-channel stereo. It gives a picture almost everywhere, except on Full HD-only or 4K30-max displays (manual p.8, 29).
Automix creates an EDID from the connected display capabilities. It can then force flags (EDID MANAGER tab): 2.0 Stereo, 5.1 Multi, 7.1 Full, Native, TOP MAX, HDR10+, HLG, 2020/xvYCC, no YCbCr, No 3D, DV Force Metadata, DV Remove and DV Limit 300MHz. Do not force flags you do not actually need.
Custom lets you choose from the Vertex EDID bank. The manual documents 100 EDID tables: tables 1–10 are CUSTOM slots (CUSTOM 1 [Default FULL no DV], CUSTOM 2 [FULL + LG DV] and CUSTOM 3 [FULL + Vizio DV] are pre-filled), tables 11–100 are fixed presets. Each input can use the same or a different EDID.
Vertex offers No Scaling, Auto Scaling and Custom Scaling. Start with No Scaling / passthrough when source and display already share a compatible format. Introduce scaling only when you have a specific mixed-resolution need.
The Vertex OLED/GUI can display active input information. Read the real incoming signal rather than assuming the source is sending what its menu says.
Vertex can manage/convert HDCP. Do not force an HDCP level as the first troubleshooting step. First establish whether the problem is resolution/EDID/cable or actually protection-related.
Play known HDR10 content. Confirm the source signal and display HDR state before enabling LLDV/Dolby Vision tricks.
For a projector workflow, select the intended LLDV-capable EDID only after HDR10 works. Selecting an EDID table in the GUI sends a hot-plug automatically; otherwise use CONFIG → ISSUE HOTPLUG or a short press on RST. Some sources need their power cord pulled. The compatible source performs player-led Dolby Vision processing.
Once one output is stable, connect the second display/AVR. If capabilities differ, then use Automix, scaling or per-input/custom EDID deliberately.
- A stable picture exists with one source and one display.
- Vertex shows the expected active input and signal.
- Normal HDR10 works before LLDV.
- Scaling and EDID overrides are used for a reason, not simply because the options exist.
- The original Vertex is treated as an 18Gbps / 600MHz HDMI 2.0b-class device.
If it does not work
No picture at all
Use the conservative Fixed EDID as a diagnostic baseline, simplify to one source/one display, then test cables and a lower source format.
One TV works, the second does not
Test each display alone. Then use Automix/scaling only after you know both displays' individual capabilities.
Changing EDID appears to do nothing
Force a fresh HDMI handshake or restart/reconnect the source so it reads the new EDID.
Audio disappeared after changing EDID
Check whether the chosen EDID advertises only stereo. Automix/custom audio flags can change what the source believes the system accepts.
