Fixed EDID
A basic, safe 4K60 4:2:0 stereo EDID you can fall back on when nothing else gives a picture.
The Fixed EDID is a simple, safe EDID that always tells the source the same thing: 4K60 in a basic colour format, with stereo sound.
It is like a spare key: it is not the best option, but it usually gets you in when nothing else works.
When should I use the Fixed EDID on the HDfury Vertex?
YESUse it when you get no picture at all. It is a basic 4K60 4:2:0 8-bit SDR, 300 MHz EDID with stereo sound. It does not suit displays that max out at 1080p or 4K30 (p.8, p.29).
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Move the EDID slide switch to 'Fixed EDID with L/R Audio' (p.8).
- Or select it remotely: RS232 #set edidmode fixed (p.49) or IR vertex_edidfixed (p.76).
- If a picture now appears, the problem was in what the richer EDID promised; try another table (p.8, p.15).
- Switch back afterwards: this EDID only offers 2-channel stereo audio (p.8).
What it is
A fixed EDID is a set EDID that does not change with what is connected. The source always sees the same, known capabilities.
A deliberately modest EDID is useful for troubleshooting: if a picture appears with it, the problem is in what the richer EDID promised.
On the Vertex
The Fixed EDID with L/R Audio is one of the three EDID slide switch positions (p.8). It is a 4K60 4:2:0 8b SDR, 2-channel stereo, 300MHz basic table (p.8, p.15).
The manual calls it a security EDID. On p.8 it ensures a picture in 'mostly every' setup; on p.29 in every setup, except for FHD and 4K30 Max displays. So with a 1080p-only or 4K30-only display, pick another EDID.
Select it with the slide switch, #set edidmode fixed over RS232 (p.49), IR code vertex_edidfixed (p.76) or the app (p.55).
Common questions
When should I use the Fixed EDID?

Why do I only get stereo sound with it?

Does it work with every display?
