VERTEX GLOSSARY / SCALING

Auto Scaling & Quick Presets – HDfury Vertex glossary

Ready-made output rules for the Vertex TOP output, including ten quick presets you pick with two buttons.

SIMPLY PUT

A scaling preset is a ready-made rule for what the Vertex does with each kind of incoming picture.

For example: 'turn 4K60 into something my older 1080p TV can show'.

The Vertex has ten quick presets for the top output that you choose with two buttons.

WITH THE HDFURY VERTEX

Does the HDfury Vertex have scaler presets?

YESYes. In Auto Scaling mode there are 10 quick presets for the TOP output (TX1), chosen with the INFO/OLED and INP buttons, plus 4K60, 4K60 422 HDR and 4K30 presets in the GUI for 300 MHz displays.

How to use it with the Vertex:

  1. Set the SCALE slide switch to Auto Scaling (p.12).
  2. Hold INFO/OLED, click INP as many times as the preset number, then release INFO/OLED; 1 = AUTOSENSE ALL (p.14).
  3. Or pick 4K60 PRESET, 4K60 422 HDR PRESET or 4K30 PRESET in the GUI SCALER section; tick NO UPSCALING to let the display upscale (p.30–31).
  4. Remote: RS232 #set scale auto (p.49) or IR vertex_scaleauto (p.85), with the switch in the middle.

What it is

A scaling preset is a saved rule for what a scaler does with each input format: keep it, lower the resolution or change the chroma or bit depth. Presets save you from setting every format by hand.

On the Vertex

With the Scale slide switch on Auto Scaling, the Vertex scales based on sink capabilities (p.12). Both outputs auto-sense the connected display; the TOP output (TX1) can be tuned further with presets (p.14).

Ten quick presets for the TOP port: hold INFO/OLED, click INP a number of times, release INFO/OLED. 1 is AUTOSENSE ALL (default); others target, for example, a 4k60 420 300MHz TV, a 4K30 deep colour projector, a 1080p60 TV or a 1080p60 8b device such as Ambilight (p.14).

The GUI also has the 4K60 PRESET, 4K60 422 HDR PRESET and 4K30 PRESET, aimed at 300MHz displays (p.30–31). NO UPSCALING stops the default upscaling of TX0 (BOT output) so the display does the upscaling (p.31).

RS232: #set scale auto, with the scale slide switch in the middle position (p.49). IR: vertex_scaleauto (p.85).

Common questions

Hold INFO/OLED, click INP as many times as the preset number, then release INFO/OLED. Preset 1, AUTOSENSE ALL, is the default (p.14).

Which output do the presets work on?

The quick presets and Auto Scaling presets are for the TOP output (TX1). The BOT output (TX0) is also auto-sensed and is upscaled when possible (p.14, p.30–31).

How do I stop the Vertex upscaling my picture?

Tick NO UPSCALING in the SCALER section; then the display does the upscaling instead of the Vertex (p.31).
