Hot Plug Detect (HPD)
The HDMI signal that tells a source a display is connected, and how the Vertex triggers it on demand.
Hot Plug Detect (HPD) is a small signal wire in the HDMI cable that says: 'a screen is connected'.
When it goes off and on again, the player thinks the cable was unplugged and plugged back in.
The player then asks the screen again what it can do and starts the connection over, which often fixes a black screen.
How do I send a hot plug (HPD) with the HDfury Vertex?
YESShort-press the RESET button to send a Hot Plug Detect event, so the source reads the EDID again. Do not hold it over 10 seconds: that resets the Vertex to factory defaults (p.7).
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Short-press RST on the unit (p.7).

What it is
Hot Plug Detect (HPD) is a line in every HDMI connection. The sink (TV, projector, AVR) uses it to tell the source that it is connected and that its EDID can be read.
When HPD drops and comes back, the source treats it as a reconnect. It reads the EDID again and restarts the HDCP handshake. That is why a short HPD pulse often fixes a black screen or a wrong format without pulling any cables.
On the Vertex
A short press on the RESET button generates a Hot Plug Detection event. A long press (over 10 seconds) resets the Vertex to factory default instead, so keep the press short (p.7).
In the USB GUI the same action is called Issue Hotplug (Soft Reset). You find it on the CONFIG page as ISSUE HOTPLUG: click Send to perform a soft reset in your setup (p.26, p.41). Over RS232 the command is #set hotplug, which issues a hotplug event to the sources (p.48).
When you pick a different EDID bank, you do not need to trigger HPD yourself. The Vertex loads the EDID and HPD events reset the signal so the source sees the new EDID (p.27, p.29). The specifications also list Hot-plug control: force the input device to always see an active connection (p.111).
The Pro Tips note that some sources, such as X1S or K8500, might need their power cord removed and reconnected between EDID changes (p.113).
Common questions
How do I send a hot plug with the Vertex?
Short-press the RESET button (p.7), click Send next to ISSUE HOTPLUG on the GUI CONFIG page (p.41), or use RS232 #set hotplug (p.48). Do not hold RESET longer than 10 seconds: that resets the unit to factory defaults.
I changed the EDID but my player did not notice. Why?
