Automix Algorithms – HDfury Vertex glossary
The five rules the Vertex can use to merge two sink EDIDs into one Automix EDID.
When two screens or receivers are connected, each one tells the source what it can do, and their lists are different.
An Automix algorithm is the rule that decides how to combine the two lists: keep only what both can do, take the best of both, or let one device win.
It is like two friends choosing a pizza: only toppings both like, all toppings, or one friend decides.
Which Automix algorithms does the HDfury Vertex offer?
YESFive: Min Mixed Capabilities, Max Audio/Min Video, Top Output Priority, Bot Output Priority and Max Audio/Max Video (the default). They decide how the two output EDIDs are mixed and only apply in Automix EDID mode.
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Put the EDID in Automix mode: slide switch to Automix, or middle position plus GUI/RS232 (p.8, p.49).
- USB GUI > EDID MANAGER: choose the algorithm under [Automix Algo] (p.28).
- RS232: #set edidalgo 0-4; note 2 = BOT Output Priority and 3 = TOP Output Priority (p.49).
- IR: vertex_edidalgo0 to vertex_edidalgo4 (p.58).
What it is
When two devices are connected to one source, their EDIDs usually differ. A mixing rule decides whose capabilities win: the lowest common set, the best of both, or one device first.
On the Vertex
The EDID MANAGER lists five algorithms: Min Mixed Capabilities, Max Audio/Min Video, Top Output Priority, Bot Output Priority and Max Audio/Max Video (default) (p.28). The Highlight Features speak of 4 different algorithms (p.108), while every list in the manual names five.
RS232 uses numbers: 0 = Min Mixed Capabilities, 1 = Max Audio, Min Video, 2 = BOT Output Priority, 3 = TOP Output Priority, 4 = Max Audio, Max Video. The setting applies only in AUTOMIX EDID mode (p.49). Note that 2 and 3 are in a different order than in the GUI list. IR codes vertex_edidalgo0 to 4 start on p.58.
The algorithm works together with the Automix flags, which can force things like audio channels or HDR support on top of the mix (p.28).
Common questions
Which algorithm should I pick?
Start with the default, Max Audio/Max Video (p.28). If one output gets no picture, try Min Mixed Capabilities, which keeps only what both devices support, or give priority to the output with your main screen.
Why do the RS232 numbers not match the GUI list?
The RS232 list uses 2 = BOT Output Priority and 3 = TOP Output Priority, which is the reverse of the GUI order (p.28, p.49).
Does the algorithm matter in other EDID modes?
No. It only applies in AUTOMIX EDID mode (p.49).
