Amazon Fire TV + Vertex

This guide shows which Fire TV models output Dolby Vision, how to get native Dolby Vision to a DV TV through the Vertex, and what is known about LLDV to an HDR10 projector.

Dolby Vision (Amazon developer specifications): Fire TV Stick 4K Max 1st gen (2021), Fire TV Stick 4K 2nd gen (2023), Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen (2023), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025), Fire TV Cube 2nd gen (2019) and Fire TV Cube 3rd gen (2022). Fire TV Stick 4K 1st gen (2018) is listed by Dolby as Dolby Vision-capable. No Dolby Vision: Fire TV Cube 1st gen (2018, HDR10 only), Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025, HDR10/HDR10+/HLG) and the Fire TV Stick HD models. All 4K models output at most 4K60. Fire TV smart TVs are not covered.

DOLBY VISION WITH THIS SETUP

Dolby Vision Fire TV models send native Dolby Vision to a DV TV through the Vertex; LLDV is only documented by HDfury in Netflix and the Apple TV app, so always-on LLDV is not guaranteed.

Native Dolby Vision: PARTLYYes on the Dolby Vision models listed above; no on Fire TV Cube 1st gen, Fire TV Stick 4K Select and the Fire TV Stick HD models.
LLDV via the Vertex: PARTLYHDfury lists Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube as LLDV sources in the Netflix and Apple TV apps only. Other apps, and models released after HDfury's list, are not documented.
HDR10: YESHDR10 on all 4K models; HDR10+ and HLG on most (see Amazon's specifications). Maximum 4K60, which fits inside the Vertex's 18 Gbps.

Before you start

Check your model in the list above. A model without Dolby Vision cannot send it, whatever the Vertex does.
Set the Vertex EDID first (the TV's own EDID with DV, or an LLDV EDID), then restart the Fire TV so it reads the new EDID.
Amazon's own help pages for the Fire TV display menus could not be checked for this guide. The display settings that owners report are listed under Not confirmed; the wording on your device may differ.

1. Basic settings

Amazon documents the Display & Sounds menu; the individual display options are not confirmed in Amazon's documentation (see Not confirmed).

2. Dolby Vision on a Dolby Vision TV

Dolby Vision models only. The Vertex must pass the TV's Dolby Vision capability (see Vertex part A).

3. Dolby Vision (LLDV) on an HDR10 projector or TV

The Vertex must present an LLDV EDID, and the display must switch to HDR (see Vertex part B).

THE VERTEX PART

Vertex settings for this setup

Dolby Vision TV: connect the TV to the Vertex BOTTOM output and follow part A — EDID "COPY BOT SINK" (or Automix with "DV Force Metadata"), No Scaling, InfoFrame tools off.
HDR10 projector or TV (LLDV): follow part B — upload an LLDV EDID into a free custom slot (CUSTOM 4–10) and select it for the Vertex input this player is connected to. Then make the display switch to HDR (part B2).
Plug the Fire TV into a Vertex input; for native Dolby Vision the DV TV goes on the Vertex BOTTOM output.
Fire TV LLDV is documented by HDfury only in the Netflix and Apple TV apps.
While standard Dolby Vision plays, the Vertex shows RGB 8-bit. That is normal (Vertex manual, Pro Tips).
After a Vertex EDID change, restart the Fire TV or send a hotplug from the Vertex so it reads the new EDID.

Switch these off

Settings → Display & Sounds → Audio → Dolby Digital Output: any stereo-only or Dolby Digital-only choiceLimits the audio format and blocks Atmos to an AVR.

How you know it works

On the Vertex OLED Info page, the INP line shows the incoming signal. Standard (TV-led) Dolby Vision shows as RGB 8-bit: that is normal, because DV travels in an 8-bit RGB container (Vertex manual, Pro Tips).
For LLDV, the Vertex input shows an LLDV signal only in apps that send it; the projector or TV must show HDR mode while the title plays.

Problems and fixes

No Dolby Vision at all

Check that your model has Dolby Vision (Cube 1st gen, Stick 4K Select and Stick HD do not). Then check the Vertex EDID and any AVR in the chain, and restart the Fire TV.

LLDV works in Netflix but not in another app

Expected. HDfury only lists Netflix and the Apple TV app as LLDV on Fire TV.

LLDV picture looks washed out or grey

The display is not in HDR mode. Enable the Vertex custom HDR InfoFrame (Vertex part B) or set the display to HDR manually.

NOT CONFIRMED BY THE MANUFACTURER

Owners and third-party guides report these display options under Settings → Display & Sounds → Display: Video Resolution (Auto, up to 4K Ultra HD), Dynamic Range Settings (Adaptive or Always HDR), Match Original Frame Rate, and Color Depth (up to 12 bits). Owners recommend Adaptive, so only HDR and Dolby Vision titles are sent in HDR/DV. Amazon's help pages could not be checked.
Match Original Frame Rate is reported to work only in apps that support it (for example Prime Video) and to need Video Resolution set to Auto.
Amazon help articles mention an Audio/Video Diagnostics tool for 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision problems; its menu path could not be confirmed.
Whether Fire TV models from 2021 onward send LLDV outside Netflix and the Apple TV app.
Amazon's own summary for the Fire TV Stick 4K 1st gen (2018) has been reported to list only HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, while Dolby lists it as Dolby Vision-capable.
