Silabs USB Driver
The Windows driver the Vertex needs for the USB GUI and firmware updates, and which version to pick.
A driver is a small program that lets Windows talk to a device.
The Vertex needs the Silabs (Silicon Labs) USBXpress driver before the Windows program and the firmware updater can find it.
Which version you install depends on your Windows version.
Which Silabs USB driver does the HDfury Vertex need?
HOW IT WORKSWindows 10 needs Silabs 4.0.0 and Windows XP needs 3.9.2; HDfury also lists 4.0.0 for Windows 11. Use the GUI and updater folder named after the driver you installed.
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Download the driver from the Download tab of the HDfury Vertex product page.
- Install 4.0.0 with USBXpressInstaller_x64.exe (64-bit) or _x86.exe (32-bit); 3.9.2 with USBXpressInstaller.exe (p.20).
- Open the GUI and firmware updater from the folder that matches your driver version (p.20).
- Shown as USBBOOT after a failed update? Close the GUI, replug the Vertex and run the MCU update again (p.106).
What it is
The Vertex talks to a Windows PC over USB through a Silicon Labs (Silabs) USBXpress driver. Without the right driver, the GUI and the firmware updater cannot find the unit.
On the Vertex
Two versions are offered (p.20). Silabs 4.0.0 covers XP, Vista, Win7, Win8 and Win10 on USB 2.0, and Win10 on USB 3.0 with partial support for other Windows versions. Silabs 3.9.2 covers XP to Win8 on USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.
Windows 10 needs 4.0.0; Windows XP needs 3.9.2. On other versions, try 4.0.0 first; with USB 3.0 on Win8 or older you might prefer 3.9.2 (p.20). Install 3.9.2 with USBXpressInstaller.exe, 4.0.0 with USBXpressInstaller_x86.exe (32-bit) or _x64.exe (64-bit) (p.20).
The firmware updater and the GUI each have two folders named after the driver version. Use the folder that matches your installed driver (p.20). If the Vertex shows up as USBBOOT after a failed update, also check that you use the right driver (p.106).
Common questions
Which driver do I need for Windows 10 or 11?
Silabs 4.0.0 is mandatory on Windows 10 (p.20); HDfury also lists Silabs 4.0.0 for Windows 11 on its product page. Windows XP needs 3.9.2 (p.20).
The GUI does not find my Vertex. What should I check?
Check the driver version and use the GUI and updater folder named after the driver you installed (p.20).
My Vertex shows up as USBBOOT after an update. What now?
It is waiting in the bootloader. Close the GUI, reconnect the Vertex and run the MCU update again with the right driver folder (p.106).
