USB / Power – HDfury Vertex glossary
USB is used for power and firmware upgrades. The supplied Vertex power supply is required during operation.
The Vertex gets its power through a small (mini) USB socket.
It needs its own 5 V, 2 A power supply, because it uses more power than older HDfury boxes.
The same USB socket is used to connect a PC for settings and firmware updates.
How is the HDfury Vertex powered?
HOW IT WORKSThrough its mini-USB port with the supplied Vertex power supply (regulated 5 V, at least 2.0 A), which must be used at all times. Do not use 0.5 A HDfury1/HDfury2/GammaX supplies. The same port is used for firmware updates.
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Plug the supplied Vertex power supply into the mini-USB port (p.106).
- OLED stays dark? That can mean too little power (p.6).
- For output devices that draw power from HDMI (e.g. active cables), power the Vertex from port 1 of the optional Universal Power Supply (p.104).
- Use the USB port with a Windows PC for the GUI and firmware updates (p.104).

Common questions
Can I power the Vertex from a TV USB port or a phone charger?
HDfury says the Vertex power supply must be used at all times; any replacement must be regulated 5 V DC with at least 2.0 A through a mini-USB connector (p.106).
Can I use the HDfury1, HDfury2 or GammaX power supply?
No. Those are only 0.5 A; the Vertex needs 2.0 A (p.106).
An active HDMI cable at the output does not work. Is it power?
Possibly. Cables that take power from the HDMI port can fail with the default supply; HDfury suggests port 1 of the optional Universal Power Supply (p.104).
