Copy Sink EDID (Copy TOP / BOT)
Present the EDID of the TV or AVR on one output to your source, or read it out and save it to a file.
Copy Sink EDID makes the Vertex pass on the EDID of one real screen or receiver, so the source thinks it is connected straight to that device.
It is like forwarding a letter unopened: the source reads exactly what your TV wrote.
The Vertex can also read that EDID and save it as a file.
Can the HDfury Vertex copy the EDID of my TV?
YESYes. Copy TOP Sink or Copy BOT Sink makes the Vertex present the EDID of the device on that output. You can also read a TV's EDID, save it to a file, edit it and upload it into a custom slot.
How to use it with the Vertex:
- USB GUI > EDID MANAGER: select Copy BOT Sink or Copy TOP Sink (p.29).
- RS232: #set edidmode copybot or copytop (p.49); IR: vertex_edidcopybot / vertex_edidcopytop (p.60).
- To keep a copy: Read TV [BOT] EDID or Read TV [TOP] EDID, then Save to File or Upload EDID (p.29).
- For Dolby Vision: connect BOT straight to the TV and boot the Vertex before adding other equipment (p.113).
What it is
Copying a sink EDID means the device in the middle passes on the EDID of one real display or receiver. The source then behaves as if it were connected directly to that device.
Reading ('sniffing') an EDID stores it, so you can inspect it, edit it or reuse it later.
On the Vertex
The EDID MANAGER has [Copy TOP Sink] and [Copy BOT Sink]: use the EDID from the sink on the TOP or BOTTOM output (p.29). RS232: #set edidmode copytop or copybot (p.49). IR: vertex_edidcopytop and vertex_edidcopybot (p.60). The app offers Copy Top and Copy Bot too (p.55).
[Read TV [TOP] EDID] and [Read TV [BOT] EDID] sniff the EDID from the sink on that output. You can then upload it as the custom EDID, or Save to File and open it in an EDID editor such as AWEE from Analog Way (p.29).
Pro Tip for Dolby Vision: first connect the Vertex bottom output straight to the TV and let it boot, then insert the other equipment. The Vertex sniffs the TV EDID and presents it to the source (p.113). You can also read one, or mix two, sink EDIDs, apply flags and save the result as your own custom EDID (p.113).
Common questions
Which one do I choose, Copy TOP or Copy BOT?
Choose the output where your main screen or receiver is connected. Copy TOP Sink uses the EDID of the TOP output device, Copy BOT Sink that of the BOT output device (p.29).
I lost Dolby Vision after putting my AVR between the Vertex and the TV. What helps?
First connect the BOT output straight to the TV and let the Vertex boot so it stores the TV's EDID and DV string; then put the AVR back (p.36, p.113).
