Zidoo Z9X and Z9X PRO + Vertex

This guide separates the two Zidoo models and explains which Dolby Vision output each one gives you through the original Vertex. It also explains the difference between LLDV output and the VS10 converter.

Zidoo Z9X (2020, Realtek RTD1619DR) and Zidoo Z9X PRO (2023, Realtek RTD1619BPD). They are different hardware with different Dolby Vision options. Z9X: VS10 with LLDV output (Zidoo). Z9X PRO: LLDV (player-led) and Standard (TV-led) Dolby Vision (Zidoo). The Z9X 8K (2024) is a third model and is not covered.

DOLBY VISION WITH THIS SETUP

Both models can send player-led Dolby Vision (LLDV) for an HDR10 projector behind the Vertex; only the Z9X PRO is documented to send TV-led Dolby Vision to a Dolby Vision TV.

Native Dolby Vision: PARTLYZ9X PRO: yes, Zidoo says it supports 'Standard mode (TV Led)'. Z9X: Zidoo only mentions VS10 with LLDV output; TV-led Dolby Vision is not confirmed.
LLDV via the Vertex: YESBoth models, per Zidoo's product pages. VS10 is a separate converter (SDR/HDR10 to Dolby Vision, or Dolby Vision to HDR/SDR); you do not need VS10 to send LLDV of real Dolby Vision films.
HDR10: YESBoth models output HDR10, HLG and HDR10+ up to 4K 60Hz.

Before you start

Know your model: Z9X (2020) or Z9X PRO (2023). The Dolby Vision options differ.
Zidoo's official Z9X PRO manual (v1.1) only documents the first-boot setup wizard. Full Settings menu paths are not documented by Zidoo; check the wording on your unit.
Keep the output at 4K 60Hz or lower for the original Vertex.
LLDV = player-led Dolby Vision output. VS10 = Zidoo's Dolby conversion engine. They are not the same thing.

2. Dolby Vision on a Dolby Vision TV

THE VERTEX PART

Vertex settings for this setup

Dolby Vision TV: connect the TV to the Vertex BOTTOM output and follow part A — EDID "COPY BOT SINK" (or Automix with "DV Force Metadata"), No Scaling, InfoFrame tools off.
HDR10 projector or TV (LLDV): follow part B — upload an LLDV EDID into a free custom slot (CUSTOM 4–10) and select it for the Vertex input this player is connected to. Then make the display switch to HDR (part B2).
The Zidoo connects to a Vertex input; a Dolby Vision TV goes on the Vertex BOTTOM output (Z9X PRO), an HDR10 projector gets the LLDV EDID route (both models).
Zidoo is not on HDfury's LLDV source list, but Zidoo documents LLDV output itself.
Owners report the player's DV/VS10 choice can fall back to Auto when it boots without seeing a Dolby Vision EDID; keep the Vertex powered with a fixed EDID (community report).

Switch these off

How you know it works

Vertex OLED Info page, line INP: owners report YCbCr 4:2:2 12-bit for player-led (LLDV) output (community report); TV-led Dolby Vision arrives as RGB 8-bit (Vertex manual p.113).

Problems and fixes

The Dolby Vision or VS10 setting went back to Auto after a power cycle.

Owners report this happens when the player boots without seeing a Dolby Vision EDID. Keep the Vertex powered with a fixed EDID, then select the setting again (community report).

Everything plays as Dolby Vision, even HDR10 films.

HDR mode is on Dolby Vision VS10 Engine. Set it back to Auto if you only want real Dolby Vision.

No picture at a high output mode.

Go back to 4K 60Hz or lower; the original Vertex cannot pass more.

NOT CONFIRMED BY THE MANUFACTURER

Settings menu paths such as 'Settings → Display → HDR' and the option name 'Dolby Vision Low Latency (LLDV, YUV422, 12Bit)'. These come from owners and reviews, not from a Zidoo manual.
TV-led (standard) Dolby Vision on the original Z9X.
That the Dolby Vision options only appear when the EDID reports Dolby Vision. Zidoo documents this only for the newer Z9X 8K.
