Philips OLED + Vertex

Philips OLEDs from 2019 accept native Dolby Vision, but only when the HDMI Ultra HD setting of the input is Optimal. This guide shows where to find it.

Philips OLED Android TVs 2019–2022 (e.g. OLED804/854 2019, OLED805/855/935 2020, OLED806/856/936 2021, OLED707/807/907/937 2022) and later Philips Google TV models. Dolby Vision on 2018 models (OLED803/903) is not confirmed.

DOLBY VISION WITH THIS SETUP

Connect the Philips OLED to the Vertex BOTTOM output and set HDMI Ultra HD of that port to Optimal; then send normal TV-led Dolby Vision.

Native Dolby Vision: YESYes from 2019. Philips: 'Dolby Vision content is supported only when HDMI Ultra HD is set to Optimal or Optimal (Auto Game)' (OLED707, 2022).
LLDV via the Vertex: NOT CONFIRMEDNot needed: use native Dolby Vision. Philips does not document LLDV input.
HDR10: YESYes, plus HDR10+. On 2022 models HDR10+ works only with Optimal.

Before you start

Know which HDMI number on the TV the Vertex BOTTOM output is plugged into. HDMI Ultra HD is set per port.
Use an 18 Gbps (Premium High Speed) HDMI cable between Vertex and TV.

1. Set HDMI Ultra HD on the Vertex port

2. Dolby Vision on the Philips

THE VERTEX PART

Vertex settings for this setup

Native Dolby Vision: connect this TV to the Vertex BOTTOM output — the Vertex reads the TV's Dolby Vision data only there — and follow part A.
Connect the Philips OLED to the Vertex BOTTOM output; the Vertex reads the TV's Dolby Vision block only there.
TV-led Dolby Vision travels as RGB 8-bit through the Vertex; 'RGB 8b' on the Vertex is normal (manual p.113).
VRR and high refresh rates (Auto Game 120Hz Pro) cannot pass the original Vertex (18 Gbps).

Switch these off

HDMI Ultra HD = Standard on the Vertex portStandard does not carry HDR10+ or Dolby Vision.
Optimal (Auto Game …Hz Pro) for film useOnly needed for VRR and high refresh rates, which cannot pass the original Vertex; on some models it drops HDR10+.

How you know it works

Play Dolby Vision content through the Vertex: the TV should switch to Dolby Vision. If not, re-check HDMI Ultra HD for that port and power-cycle the player.

Problems and fixes

Dolby Vision is missing

Set HDMI Ultra HD to Optimal for that port, power-cycle the player, then check the Vertex EDID settings.

Dolby Vision on 2018 Philips OLEDs (OLED803/903).
Which Philips model years have Dolby Vision: the manuals do not list it; 2019 comes from the press.
Whether Philips OLEDs accept LLDV.
The on-screen notice or picture-mode names a Philips TV shows during Dolby Vision.
