LG OLED + Vertex

LG OLEDs accept normal (TV-led) Dolby Vision. This guide shows the one LG setting that must be on for the Vertex port, and how to check that Dolby Vision arrives.

LG OLED TVs with Dolby Vision, from 2016 (B6/C6/E6/G6) to 2025 (B5/C5/G5). Menu paths are given for 2017–2020 and 2021 and later (C1, G1, B1, A1 and newer). No LG path for 2016 models was checked. Through the original Vertex you get up to 4K60 (18 Gbps); 4K120, VRR and ALLM do not pass.

DOLBY VISION WITH THIS SETUP

LG OLEDs are native Dolby Vision TVs: connect the TV to the Vertex BOTTOM output, turn on HDMI (Ultra HD) Deep Colour for that port, and send normal TV-led Dolby Vision.

Native Dolby Vision: YESEvery LG OLED since 2016 accepts Dolby Vision on its HDMI inputs (the C1 is listed with Dolby Vision IQ). The port the Vertex uses must have HDMI Deep Colour on, otherwise 4K60 HDR and Dolby Vision are not offered.
LLDV via the Vertex: NOT CONFIRMEDNot needed on an LG OLED: use native Dolby Vision. LG does not document whether its OLEDs also accept low-latency (player-led) Dolby Vision.
HDR10: YESYes, automatically (LG calls it HDR10 Pro on newer models), as long as HDMI Deep Colour is on for the port.

Before you start

Know which HDMI number on the TV the Vertex BOTTOM output is plugged into. The Deep Colour setting is per port.
Use an 18 Gbps (Premium High Speed) HDMI cable between Vertex and TV.
LG says to restart the TV after changing HDMI Deep Colour.

1. Open the full HDMI bandwidth on the Vertex port

The name and place of this setting changed several times. Pick the row for your model year.

2. Dolby Vision on the LG

There is no separate Dolby Vision switch on the LG. The TV switches by itself when a Dolby Vision signal arrives.

THE VERTEX PART

Vertex settings for this setup

Native Dolby Vision: connect this TV to the Vertex BOTTOM output — the Vertex reads the TV's Dolby Vision data only there — and follow part A.
Connect the LG OLED to the Vertex BOTTOM output; the Vertex reads the TV's Dolby Vision block only there.
Through the Vertex, TV-led Dolby Vision travels as RGB 8-bit; the Vertex showing 'RGB 8b' is normal (manual p.113).
4K120, VRR and ALLM cannot pass the original Vertex (18 Gbps). Connect a 4K120 console straight to the TV.
The Vertex BOTTOM output is also its CEC/ARC port.

VERTEX DOLBY VISION SETUP — ALL STEPS →

Switch these off

Game Optimizer (2021+: Settings → All Settings → General → Game Optimizer) / Instant Game Response on the Vertex portIts VRR, ALLM and 4K120 features cannot pass the original Vertex; not needed for films.

How you know it works

Play Dolby Vision content and open Settings (gear) → Picture Mode: you should see Dolby Vision modes. If you only see HDR modes, the TV gets HDR10, not Dolby Vision.

Problems and fixes

4K picture, but no HDR or no Dolby Vision

Turn HDMI (Ultra HD) Deep Colour on for the exact HDMI port the Vertex is plugged into, then restart the TV. Then check the source's Dolby Vision output, and only then the Vertex EDID settings.

Picture flickers or goes black after turning Deep Colour on

Use an 18 Gbps (Premium High Speed) HDMI cable between Vertex and TV; LG notes 4K60 needs an HDMI 2.0-rated cable.

Dolby Vision disappears after adding an AVR

The AVR must pass 4K60 at 18 Gbps and Dolby Vision (see the Denon/Marantz guide). Re-check which EDID the source sees.

4K120 or VRR works when connected directly, but not through the Vertex

Expected: the original Vertex is an 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 device.
