EDID & INFOFRAMES
EDID and InfoFrames perform different jobs. EDID describes receiver capabilities back toward the source, while HDMI InfoFrames carry metadata alongside the active signal. Vertex provides specialist tools for working with both.
EDID and InfoFrames are two small messages that travel next to the picture.
EDID goes from the screen to the source: "this is what I can show". InfoFrames go from the source to the screen: "this is what I am sending you".
The Vertex can read and change both.
Can the HDfury Vertex change EDID and InfoFrames?
YESYes. It controls the EDID the source reads (100 tables, custom, copy or Automix), and it can capture, edit, block or replace the HDR, AVI and VSI InfoFrames on the signal (p.28–35, p.110).
How to use it with the Vertex:
- EDID: use the EDID MANAGER tab in the GUI, with the EDID slide switch in the middle (p.8, p.28–29).
- HDR data: the HDR INFOFRAME tab shows the captured HDR metadata and has a custom HDR generator (p.32–33).
- AVI and VSI: the AVI/VSI IF tab shows, replaces or blocks them; advanced users only (p.34–35).
- The DV/IF tab shows the SPD, Audio, HDMI Vendor and HDMI Forum InfoFrames (p.36).
What does this mean in a real AV system?
EDID management can influence what a source decides to output. InfoFrame tools are useful for inspecting or working with metadata used by video formats and specialist calibration or integration workflows.
This article is part of the Vertex Signal Laboratory glossary and explains the function in the context of HDMI signal management.

What is the difference between EDID and InfoFrames?
EDID describes what the receiver can do and is read before the signal starts. InfoFrames describe the actual signal, such as colour format or HDR data, and are sent with the video.
Can I see which InfoFrames my source sends?
Yes. The GUI shows the captured HDR, AVI, VSI, SPD and audio InfoFrames (p.32–36).
