Mini-TOSLINK
Mini-TOSLINK carries optical S/PDIF through a 3.5 mm optical connector. Vertex uses a combo D/A connector that can provide optical digital or analog stereo audio.
Mini-TOSLINK is a small plug that sends digital sound as light through an optical cable.
On the Vertex it shares one round socket, marked D/A, with the normal headphone-type analog stereo plug.
Through it you get stereo, or up to 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS surround.
Does the HDfury Vertex have an optical audio output?
YESYes. The 3.5 mm D/A combo jack gives mini-TOSLINK optical (stereo or up to 5.1 Dolby/DTS) or analog stereo. Lossless formats such as TrueHD or Atmos only go out over HDMI (p.104–105).
How to use it with the Vertex:
- Plug in a mini-TOSLINK cable, or a mini-TOSLINK to regular TOSLINK adapter (p.105).
- For 5.1, give the source an EDID with 5.1: a table named 'SPDIF' or the Automix 5.1 Multi flag (p.15, p.28).
- For TV sound via ARC: TV on the BOT output, CEC tab set to Audio System w/ARC and CEC ENABLED (p.38–39).
- ARC ALLOW DD+/ATMOS only helps if your AVR accepts 192 kHz over optical (p.39).

HDMI behaviour is determined by the complete signal chain. Vertex exposes and manages these technical layers so mixed sources, displays, projectors and AV processors can be configured more deliberately instead of relying only on automatic handshakes.
Common questions
Can I use a normal TOSLINK cable?
Yes, with a 3.5 mm mini-TOSLINK to regular TOSLINK adapter (p.105).
Can I get Dolby Atmos or TrueHD from the optical output?
No. Optical S/PDIF carries only stereo and 5.1; lossless audio goes out through HDMI only (p.104).
Is the analog output surround?
No, the analog output is stereo only (p.104).
