Sony BRAVIA + Vertex

Most BRAVIAs since 2017 accept native Dolby Vision over HDMI. The key is the HDMI signal format of the port the Vertex uses.

DOLBY VISION WITH THIS SETUP

On a Dolby Vision BRAVIA, connect it to the Vertex BOTTOM output and set that HDMI port to Enhanced format (Dolby Vision) or Enhanced format; avoid the 4K120, Advanced, 8K and VRR modes.

Native Dolby Vision: YESYes on the models in Sony's list (some 2017/2018 models needed a software update). Dolby Vision works only in an Enhanced HDMI signal format that includes it.
LLDV via the Vertex: NOT CONFIRMEDNot needed on Dolby Vision models. For non-DV BRAVIAs (e.g. X80G), Sony does not document LLDV input.
HDR10: YESYes, automatically, when the port is in an Enhanced format.

Before you start

Check in Sony article 00161421 that your model has Dolby Vision over HDMI.
On older 4K Android TV models only HDMI IN 2 and 3 offer Enhanced format; plug the Vertex into one of those.
Use an 18 Gbps Premium High Speed HDMI cable; Sony requires it for Enhanced format.

1. Set the HDMI signal format of the Vertex port

The path depends on whether your BRAVIA runs Android TV or Google TV.

2. Dolby Vision on the BRAVIA

Pick the Dolby Vision-capable format… → HDMI signal format → [HDMI port with the Vertex]Enhanced format (Dolby Vision) or Enhanced formatSony: some devices may not output Dolby Vision in Enhanced format (4K120) or Enhanced format (Advanced). THE VERTEX PART

Vertex settings for this setup

Native Dolby Vision: connect this TV to the Vertex BOTTOM output — the Vertex reads the TV's Dolby Vision data only there — and follow part A.
Connect the Dolby Vision BRAVIA to the Vertex BOTTOM output; the Vertex reads the TV's Dolby Vision block only there.
TV-led Dolby Vision travels as RGB 8-bit through the Vertex; 'RGB 8b' on the Vertex is normal (manual p.113).
4K120, 8K and VRR cannot pass the original Vertex (18 Gbps), so those HDMI modes bring nothing here.

Switch these off

Enhanced format (4K120) / Enhanced format (Advanced) / Enhanced format (VRR) on the Vertex portSony: Dolby Vision may not be output in these modes; the Vertex cannot pass 4K120 or VRR anyway.
Enhanced format (8K) on HDMI 4 of 8K modelsSony: no Dolby Vision on HDMI 4 in this mode.
Standard format on the Vertex portToo little bandwidth for 4K60 HDR and Dolby Vision.

How you know it works

Play Dolby Vision content: the BRAVIA should switch to Dolby Vision. If it does not, follow Sony article 00298081 (Dolby Vision video does not appear via HDMI).

Problems and fixes

Dolby Vision disappeared after changing the HDMI mode

Set the port back to Enhanced format (Dolby Vision) or Enhanced format, then restart the player.

No picture or flicker in Enhanced format

Sony: switch to Standard format to test, and use an 18 Gbps Premium High Speed cable.

Enhanced format is not offered on my port

On older 4K Android TV models only HDMI IN 2 and 3 offer it; move the Vertex cable.

NOT CONFIRMED BY THE MANUFACTURER

Which exact model and HDMI port shows which Enhanced option; Sony says only that it depends on the model and HDMI input.
Whether non-DV BRAVIAs (e.g. X80G) accept LLDV with an HDR InfoFrame from the Vertex.
The on-screen notice or picture-mode name a BRAVIA shows during Dolby Vision per model.
